The Role Of The Oxygen Sensor Is Twofold

It determines the presence of excess oxygen in the engine exhaust after combustion and converts this information into a voltage signal for the engine computer. This enables the engine to achieve closed-loop control by adjusting the air-fuel mixture to optimize combustion efficiency.

It ensures the effective operation of ternary catalytic converters by monitoring the conversion efficiency of three pollutants: hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxide compounds in the exhaust. The oxygen sensor helps facilitate the transformation and purification of these pollutants. Oxygen sensors find applications in various industries including oil, chemical, coal, metallurgy, papermaking, fire safety, municipal services, pharmaceuticals, automotive, and gas emission monitoring.

Common faults associated with oxygen sensors include poisoning, carbon accumulation, ceramic cracking, heater resistance wire burning, and internal wiring breakage. These faults can impair the sensor's ability to accurately measure oxygen levels and can lead to performance issues in vehicles or industrial processes
