What Is The Oil Pan

Nov 18, 2023

The oil pan is the lower half of the crankcase, also known as the lower crankcase. The function is to seal the crankcase as the outer shell of the oil storage tank, prevent impurities from entering, and collect and store lubricating oil flowing back from various friction surfaces of the diesel engine, dissipating some heat and preventing lubricating oil oxidation.
brief introduction
The oil sump is located under the engine: it is detachable and seals the crankcase as the outer shell of the oil storage tank. The oil pan is mostly stamped from thin steel plates, and more complex shapes are generally cast into shape using cast iron or aluminum alloy. It is equipped with a stable oil baffle inside to avoid oil surface vibration and splashing caused by diesel engine turbulence, which is conducive to the sedimentation of lubricating oil impurities. A dipstick is installed on the side to check the oil level. In addition, there is also an oil drain plug installed at the lowest point of the bottom of the oil pan.
